PSYCHOTHERAPY NJ

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy involves using evidence-based treatment methods to help patients improve a problem, increase happiness, or become more productive. Dr. Singh recommends psychotherapy when you need more effective habits, a better outlook, or more appropriate coping skills.

Dr. Singh takes several different approaches to this form of talk therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), insight-oriented therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and motivational interviewing. Through these methods, he encourages you to open up and discuss your issues in a safe and supportive environment.

Dr. Singh helps you identify the thoughts and behaviors that hold you back and develops a treatment plan to address them.

What does Psychotherapy Treat?

Dr. Singh recommends psychotherapy for a wide range of personal issues and mental health conditions. Some of the most common reasons he engages in psychotherapy include:

  • Anxiety and depression.
  • Mood and personality disorders.
  • Substance abuse.
  • Behavioral issues.
  • Self-harm behaviors.

In addition to these conditions, Dr. Singh may advocate psychotherapy when you're facing specific stressors. He may suggest it if you’re struggling to resolve relationship conflicts or eliminate bad habits, such as being passive-aggressive.

When you’re coping with a major life change or coming to terms with a chronic medical condition, Dr. Singh may use psychotherapy to address your needs.

THERAPY APPOINTMENT

PSYCHIATRISTS IN NEW JERSEY

How does Dr. Singh Utilize Psychotherapy in an Appointment?

When you see Dr. Singh, you can choose to spend approximately 30 minutes or 50 minutes with him one-on-one, during which time he provides psychotherapy. During this time, you can discuss any issues you’re having and any problems you’d like to address in therapy.

During your first appointment, Dr. Singh takes a full social and medical history, and he asks you a wide range of questions, from what your support system is like to any medications you may take. Together, you and Dr. Singh create treatment goals and develop an individualized treatment plan to guide your therapy.

Through psychotherapy, Dr. Singh helps you recognize the family and home dynamics that affect you and influence your thoughts, emotions, and actions. He may give you skills to practice or ask that you track certain things, such as your thoughts and feelings or how long you sleep. In some cases, Dr. Singh may ask you to do some “homework” to improve these skills.

If you think you could benefit from psychotherapy, don’t wait to seek help.
